Mr. Winters

Mr. Winters has been a band director at Poplar Bluff R-I schools since fall the 2002.  In 2003, he became Head Band Director and also the Fine Arts Department Chair.  During his time at Poplar Bluff, the band has consistently grown and has received high marks at concert, marching and jazz festivals.

Mr. Winters graduated from Waxahachie High School in Waxahachie, TX.  After graduation from high school, Mr. Winters attended Evangel University in Springfield, MO.  At Evangel, he graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Music Education degree.  While at Evangel, he was inducted into the music honors society Pi Kappa Lambda.  After graduation, he taught for one year at Weaubleau schools and three years South Shelby High School.  While teaching in Shelby County, Mr. Winters began attending the University of Missouri in Columbia.  At MU, he studied music theory, music history, and took trumpet lessons from Dr. Alex Pickard.

 

He then enrolled at Missouri State University in Springfield, MO, where he earned a Masters of Music in Instrumental Conducting. While in Springfield, he taught for three years at Parkview High School.

When not at school, Mr. Winters enjoys spending time with his family - Debbie (Thornburgh) Winters (1996 PBHS band alum) and daughters Hannah and Bethany.  His hobbies include gardening and cooking exotic dishes for his family.
